IN GENERAL

Jewels where first shown up worldwide, in the beginnings of civilization.

For many centuries people believed that jewels had supernatural powers and for that the connection that had made between jewels and Gold -a metal so shine and imperishable that also was believed to be magic- was inevitable and decisive.

Greek jewels have a tradition of many centuries. The art of goldsmith in Greece begins on 9 BC century. Of course the metals that were used at the time being were mostly iron and copper and rarely gold. Later on, Ancient Greek artists began to use a method in order to create glyptic into precious stones. They used to make cuttings in the stones using diamond tools.

Jewels that used to be distributed in great variety during that period in Ancient Greece where earrings and necklaces.

Bracelets on the other hand used to be worn in both hands either over the elbows or in the wrists like nowadays.

The first jewels ever worn by people were rings.

Nowadays Greece is on the 7th more productive countries in the world. Its manufacture is based on handmade work and has been recognized as a design power on jewel’s field.
